About the Centre

The Energy Discovery Centre is housed in an historical building – a power station that once provided electricity to all of Tallinn, and which has since been fully renovated.

The centre is spread out over three floors:

• On the 2nd floor you’ll find the bright and spacious Lightning Hall. Home to actual turbines and generators that were used in the power station, it serves as the venue for our unique lightning demonstrations on a daily basis and explores the history of electricity. At the back of the hall is our Theatre of Science space, which was once the power plant’s switching stage.
• On the entry level you’ll find out how electricity reaches our homes and what the benefits of drinking tap water are. Here you can also buy a fun reminder of your visit from our science shop, grab a snack or a drink from the vending machines and securely store your coats and bags in our lockers. The room for birthday parties is also on this level.
• Down in the basement, you can get hands-on with our interactive sound, light and optics exhibits. Themed exhibitions are often held here, too. The secrets of the universe can be explored in both the exhibition hall and the planetarium.

In a separate block you’ll find our physics laboratory and exclusive seminar room, up to which you can ride in a 100-year-old lift.

GET AROUND

• The Centre has a lift.
• The main entrance is downstairs from street level. If you are visiting the Centre with a pram, pushchair or wheelchair, please choose the glass door to the right of the main entrance and ring the doorbell. You will be met by one of our guides, who will show you to the lift that will take you to all floors of the Centre.
• If you’re visiting by car, see this map for nearest parking lots.

TICKETS

• Ticket sales end half an hour before the Center is closed.
• Tickets are valid for leaving and returning to the center on the day of purchase.
• No refunds are given on purchased tickets.

CLOTHES AND PERSONAL BELONGINGS

• You can find the open cloakroom next to the Ticket Desk. Please bear in mind that the cloakroom is not under surveillance.
• Visitors are welcome to use lockers to store their personal belongings. Please request a key from the Ticket Desk.
• We kindly ask you to keep an eye on the key. The Centre has the right to demand compensation in the amount of 20 euros if a key is lost.

ACTIVITIES IN THE CENTRE

• All our exhibits are safe to use but please read the instructions before using the exhibits.
• Following the guide’s instructions during lightning and static electricity demonstrations is mandatory.

FOOD & DRINKS

• Please enjoy your snacks and drinks at the Resting area tables and do not take them into the exhibition halls.

OTHER

• Please keep in mind that the Centre has CCTV.
• Taking photos and filming at the Centre is permitted. If you would like to photograph or film for commercial purposes, please contact us at info@energiakeskus.ee.
• Please don’t bring pets to the Centre. Guide dogs are welcome.
• If you feel unwell or are exhibiting virus symptoms, please postpone your visit to the Centre.
